Blank Page

Filed under: Thoughts — Gaurav @ 12:34 pm

I was working in my office on a notebook and by the end of some heavy calculations the page ended. I turned the page. And then I sat there with a completely blank part of notebook and started surfing. Soon a person entered the office. Seeing the blank part, made a face and said ironically “so your are really working hard.”

I replied with a smile, ” A blank page in front of you doesn’t mean that you are not doing anything, it means that you have just completed a heavy task.”

Chameli – "baage re maan kahin"

Filed under: Memoirs of IITK, Thoughts — Gaurav @ 5:50 pm

I was listening this song … its a very retrospective song. Whenever I hear this I recall the monsoon time of my place. The evenings become quite romantic with the mist from the road. There is greenery everywhere.

Well apart from all this … whenever i hear this I first of recall my 3rd year of IITK. a cool period of academic life. spending time reading novels, going to Hal-1 canteen, going to MT etc etc …

riding bicycle in rainy weather is again a beautiful experience …. eating “salted and roasted bhutta” while riding

आगे चलते चलते पंख्तियों से ख़याल उमडे

Silence and How they are Broken.

Filed under: Thoughts — Gaurav @ 12:33 pm

Silence has many meaning …. it comes in different situations.

According to me there are 2 types of silences. “Long term” and “Short term”. The duration of each is difficult to say, but generally “short term” silences last for not more than few minutes. While “long term” last for atleast an hour. One can say that there is an intermediate zone also. Well yes, there is.

1. When everyone starts laughing at same time, then after that silence follows and is broken by mostly a stupid remark. “Short term”
2. When you fight with your friends, then silence follows. broken by lovely and touching words. “long term” rarely it is “short term”.
3. When there is a big calamity about to come, then before that there is silence. Remember the dialogues spoken in movie “Titanic” when the ship was about to hit an iceberg, there was deathly silence. “short term” can also be “long term”.
4. When you are alone and concentrating, then there is silence, broken usually by murmuring some favorite song. usually “short term”.
5. When you are giving an exam and the time is short, there is pin drop silence. Broken by the “tic-tic” of the watch and the sound of movements of papers. “short term”
6. When you are watching a movie and the movie is very emotional. Then after the movie there is silence. Broken usually by asking “whats the time?”. “short term”.
7. When you standing alone on the street waiting for bus at midnight. There is silence. Broken by cracking sound of leaves. “short term”
8. When you are alone in house and feel scared, there is deathly silence. Broken by sudden noises. This can be put in intermediate zone.
9. When a child is angry with his mother, there is silence. Broken by the soft words of Mother and shouting by child. “short term” but can also be intermediate.
10. When you are telling a good and long joke. There is silence, broken by sudden burst of laughter. “short term”.

Well there are many situations where silence appears. Its not possible to write all of them.

Strutto

Filed under: Life In Trieste. — Gaurav @ 11:18 am

Strutto is the Italian word for the Fat from Pig (lard).

I’m a complete vegetarian person, I don’t even takes eggs and anything containing eggs and animal stuff except milk.

When I came to Italy, I used to purchase food without reading the ingredients. Well I was only purchasing vegetables, milk, butter, bread, cornflakes, juice etc. I never thought that such things can also contain animal products.

I have been using the same type of bread for some 2 months, when one day an Italian friend of mine told me to be careful and check if the bread has “Strutto”.
“What is that?”
“Its the fat from pig. Over here its a bit strange that they make bread with strutto and very few bread are there which are completely veg.”

That day after I heard that I felt very disgusting. as soon as I came home, I immediately check the ingredients of the bread that I have been using.
“OH God ….. what the hell “

Its surprising that most of the breads over here in supermarkets contain strutto, very few are made from vegetable oil. In fact I only find 2 types of bread which are purely veg.

Pasta in Pressure Cooker.

Filed under: Life In Trieste. — Gaurav @ 11:02 am

I stepped in Italy in September, 2006. Beginning days were funny. I mostly used to cook Indian food. Why? Because I didn’t know how to make any Italian stuff. Once I was curious to try something new. While going to supermarkets I realized that Pasta is a very common and popular dish. I thought of purchasing pasta one day and to make it.

Over here everything is in Italian so it was not possible for me at that time to understand what is the procedure being written on packet for making it. Well what ever it was, I didn’t care.

I prepared “Potatoes-Onion spicy soup” in cooker and then added uncooked pasta in it. Then I closed the lid of the pressure cooker and waited for some time. Well when I opened the cap, it looked delicious. But now comes the surprise
1. I forgot to add salt.
2. While making I added uncooked pasta to soup thus destroying everything.

I was damn hungry at that time and I don’t like throwing food. So somehow I managed to eat it.

One Sunny Day

Filed under: Life In Trieste. — Gaurav @ 1:06 pm

Today sun comes out, after few days of cloudy weather. It has been cloudy and mourning weather since the last few days. Today the grief of the mourning nature was broken by the eternal rays of the sun. The sky is blue, a color never seen before.

Its an amazing look, the ground covered by grass, blossoming with wild flowers. Its just March, but the nature has already started it springy march. There are beautiful flowers everywhere. There are certain trees which does not have any leaves but still the flowers have come out. Its looks similar to a beggar who may not have money to enjoy on a beautiful day, but would still wear good clothes.

The people like insects and lizards also comes out from their houses to enjoy the sunny weather on the sea side. Every one is dressed nicely as though they are going to some party. But its true, nature has given an unspoken party, which is open for all.

The view is interesting, no one is alone. Everyone is playing with someone. The air is playing with flowers and leaves, the waves are dancing on the tunes of wind. Dogs are with their owners where every now and then they meet new comers. Young boys are with girls, and girls are either with their pet dogs or are with their boyfriends. A romantic day is today.

Th restaurants are flooded with old people, who come here very often to spend time with others, sipping and gossiping. The roads are again getting jammed, because the population outside has increased.
