Here I present a set of images of IIT Kanpur, which I got from one of my friend. The images belong to period when IITK was under construction in 1960. Beside the site where IITK is located, link also contain images from other areas of Kanpur.

The photos are very clear, seems to me that they have been taken by someone who must be possessing a very good camera.

Chameli – "baage re maan kahin"

Filed under: Memoirs of IITK, Thoughts — Gaurav @ 5:50 pm

I was listening this song … its a very retrospective song. Whenever I hear this I recall the monsoon time of my place. The evenings become quite romantic with the mist from the road. There is greenery everywhere.

Well apart from all this … whenever i hear this I first of recall my 3rd year of IITK. a cool period of academic life. spending time reading novels, going to Hal-1 canteen, going to MT etc etc …

riding bicycle in rainy weather is again a beautiful experience …. eating “salted and roasted bhutta” while riding

United Colors of Nature

Filed under: Memoirs of IITK, Nature — Gaurav @ 3:30 pm

I took this picture while I was in IITK. At that time I was staying in old RA hostel. It was monsoon period. Certainly monsoon brings back life.

Makeup of human face is washed by water to remove painted beauty but over here its opposite. Water is used to enhance the beauty.

MT and me

Filed under: Memoirs of IITK, My Hindi Poems — Gaurav @ 1:16 pm

some lines describing the importance of MT in my life:

sham hote hi bistar se uath kar chappal pehen na,
dibbe ko band karke baju waloon ko bulana,
josh mein aakar jeans pehen na,
jeb mein purse daal ke baju waloon ke sath nikalna.

doobta suraz pet mein hakchal machta tha,
moo mein pani MT par le atta tha.
nali ke kinare bassa haua ilaka kuch jana pechana sa lagta tha,
paan ki dukan, cigret ka dhaua, mandir ki chamak dhek maan khus ho jata tha.

dukan par paunchte hi farmish karna …
haanth mein guzia aur chai leya ek koona dhoondna.
samosa chatni aur matar ke sath milkar halchal machat tha,
dostoon ka sath, uss swad se mehfil rangeen banata tha.

aaj vohi swad mujhe uss coone ki yaad dila reha hai
angeethi ka aanch maan ko garmi paucha reha hai,
beete lamhoon ki goonj chere pe muskaan laa rahi hain,
aaj phir koi awaz mujhe wapas bulla rahi hain.

For Removing Mental Tension, "MT"

Filed under: Memoirs of IITK — Gaurav @ 5:20 pm

“MT”, I think IITK would be called incomplete if MT is not present.

A place where you go in evening to have a gala time with your friends. Why just evening ? It is flooded with people from morning till late evening.

Mostly it is famous for “chai and sutta”. But there are other stuff also which make it sweet place.

The common dishes are Chai & Samosha with matar churry, Gulab Jamun, Guzia, Gazar ka Halwa, Bread Pakoda and Khasta. The area also sells fruits juices.

If you miss breakfast, then come to MT. If you want to eat samosa or guzia, then come here. I bet they have one of the most awesome taste. A taste which you can’t forget.

At first instance these place may not look very hygienic. I used to think like that when I stepped in IITK. But all these thoughts were just illusions, which disappeared when I once visited this area.

Vow what delicious stuff they sell.

Come to IITK and have not visited MT, sounds like went to Agra and have not seen Taj Mahal.

Chatori Chat

Filed under: Memoirs of IITK — Gaurav @ 4:13 pm

Happen to visit IITK and not tried “Chat, Khasta, Matar & pani ke batashe ” … sounds ridiculous.

The so called “Chat thela” was put outside Hall-3, along with other fruit vendors. In evening one passing by that lane always throws a look to whats going on that corner. Not only because the spicy stuff lures your attention but also there are many “mistress of spices” enjoying the stuff !

Whenever I used to go there, I usually asked for “Kasta with chutney and kurkure”, delicious and crispy stuff. I loved it. My 2nd favorite stuff was “pani ke batashe”, vow that has an incredible taste. Batashe stuffed with some boiled & salted peas, this then filled with “pani” (drink prepared with water, mango, chili, spices etc).

These “Chat thelas” are very common all over country, but not all have the same taste. The one in IITK, is “The One”.

Kuch Lamhe G-mid ke

I spend roughly about 2 years living in the same room G-214/Hall-1. It was the end of July in 2004 when I first stepped in this wing with the same dreams as always. But this time life was even more richer than the dreams.
I was climbing the stairs and heard song “Dhoom Machale”. I had returned after 2 months of summer internship. Each one of us in the wing has done something interesting in these 2 months. Either going abroad or doing a project in India. But we all had a lot of experiences to share. My mind was eager to plunge in this flood of colorful experiences. I was so excited to meet everyone that I wanted my parents to leave very early who came with me, to drop me in the hostel and arrange things in room.

After my parents left, I was damn excited to see the new look of each of my friends and see their room. I started from my room,

  • G-213: Lights on, room locked from inside. listening music and playing AOE.
  • G-212: room locked, not yet come.
  • G-211: dancing in front of mirror on the tunes of “assa jadoo dala re”. ” Ae narru … aur kaisa sab mast ….” ” ghar se ayen hoo … mummi papa to jaroor kuch khane ko laye honge beta ” … me: “aur tumhari trip kaise rahi …. hapak ke masti kare hoge ” ….
  • G-210: room lights off, locked from inside. playing song “dhoom machale” but every one knows what he is watching :D
  • G-210: bought a new computer(dibba) … watching item numbers, commenting on hot girls …. kamre mein mefil jami haui hain …. bed stuffed with people …
  • G-208: Lights off, door left opened, room very nicely decorated with lot of cosmetics on bed and in cupboard.
  • G-207: Lights on, room locked from inside. Listening light music. I knocked the door, door opens; “Hi GN, ghar se kab wapas ayen … Mummi papa chale gaye …. “
  • G-206: Knocked the door. door opens, lazy guy steps out with a smile and hilarious comments

hearing us “G-205″ opens his door …. greetings on meeting ….
G-207, G-206, G-205 and me …. we proceed towards are room, to eat the stuff brought from home. In middle stops at G-210, enjoys in mefil.

Then MASTI.
